Analysis of an ex-student video.

The title of the film i am going to analysis is: Invidia.

Mise-en-Scene
Costume: The man is in quite casual clothing - trousers, shirt and zip up jacket. The other person is wearing a mask with their hood up and dark clothing.
Lighting: *see lighting*
Actors: They both look like their in their teens.
Make-up: No make-up as one is a teenage boy and the other is wearing a mask.
Props: Not any props except the mask. All the props are included in the setting.
Setting: In a woods, with trees, twigs and leaves.

Editing
It has quite slow editing at the begining until the pace of the tone picks up due to the panik of the character and him running through the woods. When this happens the editing becomes much quicker. When he starts to run there is a flash of white and there is also three other flashes of white during the time he's running. The main names come at the top right hand corner of the screen at the begining, in black writing but with glowing white around them. The title then comes in the centre screen around 37 seconds in, again in black writing with glowing white around them.

Lighting
It's Low-key lighting which helps set the mood and tone of the film. It also helps tell the time of day which is night as this adds to the tone of the movie. The tone is sets is quite dark and this helps the people watching guess what type of film it is and they start to think what could happen in the remainder of the film. This is good to make enigma as it makes more people carry on watching, to answer their question.

Camera
To start with there is a pan of the setting, of the trees and area of fields around it. There is then another pan in the woods to set the scene even better. Then there is a hand-held shot which is shakey as it's the girl in the mask's POV when they are walking looking down at the ground. Then another POV shot but from the man on the grounds POV showing the girl in the mask. It then zooms in to the girls face with the mask. When the man is walking there is a close up of the foot stepping down on leaves. There's then a tracking shot of the man when he is running through the woods, followed by a hand-held shot, this then goes out to a normal shot of the man running. When the man falls over, the camera zooms in to his face to show his emotion.

Sound
To start with the music is quite eerie and slow paced which fits to the tone of the beginning. There are words wispered into the music "envy" and "jelousy" which are the main themes of the movie, the followed by "Invidia" which is the title of the film. You can then hear the rustle of leaves as someone is stepping on them. You then hear someone kicking leaves whilst their walking and calling out a name. The music starts to get more darker and quicker paced. It then starts to get louder and even more quicker paced until he starts running when there is hardly any music at all, just loud breathing from the person in the mask.

The things I like from this film is the way the main themes are wispered at the begining as this helps set the tone and makes you ask questions to yourself about these themes.
The things I don't like as much that it's quite typical to have a scary movie set in a wood.
However I think it is a good film opening.

By looking at this video, we will know what previous student videos have turned out like and what ours should be aiming to turn out like. We will also know how they structured their film, with their titles and so on, so we will know when it is best to place ours.
