On Friday we presented our media class with two idea's which we may use for our two minute opening. They were presented as follows:
One of our ideas was a...
Western movie.
Opening.
Chilling’ in the saloon, hear a gun shot, turn round and see barman dead on the bar, they run outside and find the town is on fire, see Indians running off with the sheriffs wife, Canyon Cash the sherriff has a showdown with an Indian who shoots himself to let the others get away.
Synopsis
A small town in Texas gets attacked by apaches, and they run off with the sheriff’s wife, they go on a journey to rescue her but find the camp abandoned with her dead, hung in the middle of the camp, they chase down the Indians and kill them.
Target audience: People who like westerns
Films its like: Pretty much all western films with Indians
USP: Tragic not romantic – unexpected, not typical story line
Credits come when they are talking in the bar
Country music
Natural lighting
Establishing shot of town on fire
Slow editing until the gun shot
On showdown, there will be an extreme close-up on Indians face, then he smiles and is shot, then it zooms out to reveal he shot himself and then he tells the Indians to run while the cowboys are all stunned.
Our second idea was...
Horror movie -
A bunch of teenagers hear stories about a haunted cellar and go down there, they see scratches in the wall and get killed off one by one by a ghost who was murdered there in 1812. When there are a couple left they investigate and go back to the cellar, one of them dies there, and the last one gets out and burns the girl’s bones and think its over, then she is killed in the grave yard.
Opening
Starts of in 1986 (black and white), two different people go down there they fall into crates as their drunk, then see the scratches, flashbacks of the girl being murdered, they hear a girl say “hello” dolly shot round to her, she smiles but then lunges at camera, screen blacks out, shot of them dead on the floor, Barrel roles. Titles (preferably in blood). In 2011 people start to tell stories about it being haunted..a bunch of teenagers dare each other to go down there, then different views of things moving about in the cellar, they walk down the stairs, the girl is stood in the corner but they don’t see her, camera focuses on her, she grins, door slams shut, focuses back on people looking freaked out, they see the girl, screen blacks out. She says her trademark “hello” lights up on her face, she looks into the camera. The end.
Target audience
People who like horrors, no-one with heart conditions because its jumpy
USP
Original setting, it has flashbacks and shows how it all started.
Films its like
Final destination because they all die one by one and theres no-one left alive at the end.
Low key lighting in the cellar
Natural lighting in the pub
Black and white for old fashioned bits
These were the ideas which we presented to the class, they gave us some feedback which meant we would adapt our idea so it would be the best it possibly could be.
